Why they might be annoying:

'Whoomp! There It Is' sounded a lot like 95 South's 'Whoot! There It Is,' which was released more than a month earlier in 1993.
While 'Whoot! There It Is' was moderately successful, 'Whoomp! There It Is' swallowed it up and became THE party rap/jock jam of 1993.
Curiously, while the song remained #1 on the Billboard Hip Hop charts for several weeks, it never made it to #1 on the Billboard singles chart.
The song is played constantly, ad nauseam, at many sporting venues.
They tried to capitalize on the success of the song by releasing the follow-up title 'Whoomp! There It Went.'
The song is featured on far too many compilation albums with the word 'Booty' in the title (such as 'Booty Jams,' 'Booty Essentials 2001,' 'The Best of Latin Booty Party,' 'Booty Jamz 2001,' 'Booty Bass Party 2001,' 'Bootylicious [Relatively]' and 'Summer Booty Party, Vol. 3).'

Why they might not be annoying:

'Whoomp! There It Is' sold more than 4 million singles and is one of the most played hip hop songs ever recorded.
The Chicago Bulls commissioned them to record a special edition of their song for the organization, entitled 'Bulls! There It Is.'
They were ground breakers who helped pave the way for 'Southern rap.'
They are listed on VH1's Greatest One Hit Wonders.
