Vocalist
    (January 21, 1942- )
    Birth name is Scott Davis
Wrote songs for Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell,
Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Bobby Goldsboro and Lou Rawls
Recorded 'Baby, Don't Get Hooked On Me,' 'I Believe In Music,' 'Stop and Smell the Roses,' 'Burnin' Thing,' 'Forever Lovers,' 'It's Hard To Be Humble,' 'Hooked On Music,' 'Texas In My Rear View Mirror' and 'I Never Made Love (Till I Made Love With You)'
Acted in 'North Dallas Forty (1979),' 'The Sting II (1983),' 'Possums (1998),' 'Angel's Dance (1999),' 'True Vinyl (2000),' 'Jackpot (2001),' and 'Where the Red Fern Grows (2003)'
Hosted the musical variety TV series 'The Mac Davis Show' (1974-76)
Has a recurring role in the ABC TV series 'Rodney' (2004- )
By his own admission, he abused alcohol and developed short term memory loss.
He wrote 'A Little Less Conversation' to give to Aretha Frankin to record, but instead gave it to his buddy Elvis Presley to record.
'The Sting II' (costarring Jackie Gleason) was a box office disaster and his movie roles dried up until the late 90's.
He is an overachiever. He did 'The Will Rogers Follies' on Broadway (1990) just because his wife once said: 'You know what? You've never had your name above the title of a Broadway musical.'
He pretty much retired afterwards and played golf throughout the 90's.
He's been married three times and divorced twice.
He grew up in the same town as Buddy Holly, observing that once he became a star he came back to Lubbock driving a convertible and walked with a blond on each arm. That's when he decided on a show biz career.
Two songs he wrote for Elvis, 'In The Ghetto' and 'Don't Cry Daddy,' went platinum. He also wrote 'Memories' for his NBC TV Comeback Special 'Elvis' (1968).
His song 'A Little Less Conversation' was remixed and became an international hit. It was also featured in the movies 'Ocean's Eleven' and 'Bruce Almighty,' and is the theme for the TV series 'Las Vegas.'
He was named 'Entertainer Of The Year' by the Academy Of Country Music (1975).
In a six year period, he appeared 17 times on 'The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson' (1970-76).
