    Dave Chorley (1929-1996)
    Doug Bower (1924- )
    Residents of Southampton, England
Created 20-30 crop circles a year in southern England for 13 years
    Went public in 1991
Inspired imitators to create ever more elaborate circles
Inspired gullible people to say UFOs were responsible
Bower has continued to make the occasional crop circle solo
    They damaged farmers’ crops.
Die hard believers continue to insist that supernatural forces are responsible for at least some of the crop circles.
They went public partly because Bower’s wife noticed the high mileage on his car and suspected he was having an affair.
Bower later claimed that an ‘unknown force’ had caused him to make the crop circles. (Considering that they made their first circle after a night at the pub, Guinness seems a likely candidate for the unknown force.)
They hoaxed the world with nothing but a couple of boards, some string and a garden roller.
They said they went public partly because cereologists were demanding that the Ministry of Defense investigate the mystery, which they felt would be a waste of taxpayer money.
Bower said, ‘Other people made money out of the corn circles, the experts, the farmers who charged entry, but all Dave and I got was a really big laugh.’
