Group members are mainly bored British housewives.
They are the butt of a lot of jokes in the U.K.
They do not allow Scottish or Northern Irish women to join.
They were founded in a town with the ludicrous name of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
As a fundraiser, they once put out a calendar of elderly women posing nude (1999).
They are known for making delicious jams.
They raise a lot of money for charities and community improvement efforts.
During World War I and II, they took over the operation of farms while many men served in the war.
The nude calendar was a huge success, and became an international sensation.
The story was made into a movie with Helen Mirren.
Queen Elizabeth is a member (but did not pose nude for the calendar).
