Actor
    (May 5, 1944- )
    Born in Paris, France
Portrayed Antoine Doinel in Francois Truffaut's films 'The 400 Blows' (1959), 'Stolen Kisses' (1968), 'Bed & Board' (1970) and 'Love on the Run' (1979)
Also appeared in the films 'Masculin, Feminin' (1966), 'La Chinoise' (1967), 'Weekend' (1967), 'Two English Girls' (1971), 'Out 1' (1971), 'Last Tango in Paris' (1972), 'The Mother and the Whore' (1973), 'Day for Night' (1974), 'Detective' (1985), 'I Hired a Contract Killer' (1990), 'La Vie de Boheme' (1992), 'Mon Homme' (1996), 'The Pornographers' (2001), 'The Dreamers' (2004) and 'Face' (2009)
Reviewers often treated him as Truffaut's alter ego rather than an actor in his own right.
During filming of 'Last Tango in Paris,' he was so overawed by Marlon Brando that they had to shoot their scenes on separate days.
He received a suspended sentence for assaulting his 80-year-old neighbor with a flowerpot (1986).
At 14, he gave one of the greatest performances by a child actor in 'The 400 Blows.'
He has been described as the 'face of the New Wave' for his work with Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.
While filming in Brazil, he made a speech to students at Brasilia University opposing the country's military dictatorship (1968).
