    (March 6, 1928- )
    Born in Kansas City, Missouri
American science fiction and horror author
Best known for his novel (with close friend George Clayton Johnson) Logan's Run, which inspired the movie and TV series of the same name
Two time winner of the Edgar Allen Poe Award and selected an Author Emeritus by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America
Has over 80 books, over 750 magazine and newspaper articles, and over 180 short stories published
Works have appeared in over 325 anthologies and textbooks
The movie/TV versions of Logan's Run had little to do with the book.
He wrote and drew for Hallmark Cards before hitting it big as an author.
Although far better known as a science fiction writer, he prefers to be thought of as a horror writer.
Most of his work is in multi-volume series, and especially in the case of the Logan novels, are excellent examples of the Law of Diminishing Returns.
Neither he nor his work is very well known outside of hardcore science fiction circles.
He has written/edited a strikingly good and informative series of books about fellow writers Ray Bradbury, Dashiell Hammett, and Max Brand, including biographies of each and anthologies of their works.
He loved comic books as a child (and according to him still does) with Batman being his favorite character.
He likes going to scifi and comic book conventions and signing autographs.
In his young adulthood, he liked racing cars and has written a half dozen books on car racing.
He started out as an artist and illustrated some of his own early work.
In person, he comes across as a very happy person and completely without ego.
