    He contributed to a ‘Mousercise’ children’s workout album produced by Disney.
    His songs were sampled by several hip-hop artists.
    He had a distinctively gritty and soulful singing voice.
    He was among the first artists to record a socially conscious song for Motown Records.
    His song ‘War’ hit #1 on the US pop chart.
    He was twice nominated for a Grammy Award.
