    Opened his own haute couture house (1987)

Why he might be annoying:

    His designs have been called 'the giddy peak of the bloated 80s.'
    He had the dubious distinction of being the favorite designer of Edwina Monsoon in <22136>Absolutely Fabulous<22136>.
    Despite massive publicity upon its opening, his couture house sold only 20 dresses in its first two years.
    Attempts to extend his brand name into other product lines, such as perfumes, were unsuccessful.
    His couture house racked up cumulative losses of 200 million euros before going under in 2009.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His designs have been called 'glamorous, expensive-looking and unapologeticly dramatic.'
    'The Guardian' wrote about the opening of his couture house, 'No one since Yves Saint Laurent a quarter of a century earlier made such an impact.'
    Vogue called him 'Paris's most talked-about designer.'
    He designed wedding dresses for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Christina Aguilera.
    He won a Moliere Award (the French theater's equivalent of the Tony Awards) for best costume design for a production of Racine's 'Phedre.' (1995)
    He was awarded the Legion of Honor (2002).
