Bodybuilder

The Resume

    (November 29, 1920-March 23, 2013)
    Born in Montreal, Canada
    Father of modern bodybuilding
Founder of the premier organization in professional bodybuilding, the International Federation of Bodybuilders
Published Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Shape, and Senior Golfer magazines among others
Sponsored the Mr and Ms Olympia bodybuilding contests

Why he might be annoying:

Why is bodybuilding even considered a sport?
He was repeatedly fined for false advertising regarding his fitness products and forced to issue retractions and refunds.
He said that bodybuilding would die without him.
His own line of gyms failed.
Although bodybuilding is dominated by African Americans, it was rare in the past for a black male to appear on the cover of his flagship publication, Muscle & Fitness.
Although he publicly criticized steroid use, he refused to allow steroid testing in the contests he sponsored.
He stuck his name on everything he sold and even named various weightlifting/bodybuilding principles after himself.

Why he might not be annoying:

Through his efforts, weightlifting became an accepted part of fitness for athletes and non-athletes alike.
He took the various exercises, routines, and principles of bodybuilding and weightlifting and organized them into a systematic whole.
He worked tirelessly for years to bring the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to all people.
Bodybuilding is rare among sports in that size and athletic ability are far less important than determination and smarts.
He was warning about the dangers of smoking as far back as the thirties.
Bodybuilding would not be anywhere near as popular today as it is without him.
He encouraged Arnold Schwarzenegger to come to America.
He was a very capable weightlifter himself in his youth.
Even in his eighties, he was five foot eight, 200 pounds and was a dedicated weightlifter.
A self-described small, skinny, Jewish kid, he took up weightlifting to protect himself and his brother from bullies.
He started his first magazine when he was seventeen.
