    He was sometimes billed as Dr. Haing S. Ngor in American films even though he was never licensed to practice medicine in the United States.
    He won the Oscar for essentially playing himself.
    He is a one-hit wonder.
    He was a physician and medical officer in the Cambodian army.
    He was imprisoned and tortured by the Khmer Rouge.
    He had to conceal his medical training to escape execution during his imprisonment.
    Because of this concealment, he was unable to prevent the death of his wife in labor.
    He was gunned down in his own front yard by gang members because he refused to give up a gold locket containing a picture of his late wife.
    He is the only winner of an acting Oscar to be murdered.
