She married three times.
She began her stage career at age 12.
As a child in Nome, Alaska, she performed in saloons dressed as a boy while playing a banjo.
She was an alcoholic who was frequently typecast as drunks.
Her drinking got to be so bad that she had to take a three year break in the 20's, preventing her from cementing 'star' status.

She successfully made the shift from silent films to talkies.
She appeared as Joan Crawford's mother twice twenty years apart: in 1931's 'Laughing Sinners' and again in '53's 'Torch Song.'

A number of serious car accidents left her in disabled health for much of her later life.
The Reuben sandwich's name was reportedly coined after she visited Reuben's Restaurant and Delicatessen in New York City.
