Gabrielle Giffords resigned a year after suffering a traumatic brain injury after being shot in an assassination attempt January 25, 2012. Jay Inslee resigned to focus on running for Governor of Washington March 20, 2012. Thaddeus McCotter resigned following a re-election campaign scandal involving fraudulent petition signatures July 6, 2012. Geoff Davis resigned due to family health issues July 31, 2012. Jesse Jackson, Jr. resigned due to physical and mental health problems and was under criminal investigation November 21, 2012. Bob Filner left to become mayor of San Diego December 3, 2012.
