The Resume

    (April 14, 1951- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Cellist and conductor
Notable recordings include cello concertos by Edward Elgar, Antonin Dvorak and William Walton
Announced his retirement from public performances due to a herniated disc in his neck (April 28, 2014)
Younger brother of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber

Why he might be annoying:

He started playing cello because he hated piano lessons and figured he would be allowed to drop them only if he took up another instrument.
He has been married four times and divorced three.
He was 17 years younger than his third wife, 24 years younger than his fourth.
After a fight in their home, he and his third wife were both arrested for physically assaulting each other. (The case was dismissed when neither was willing to press charges.)

Why he might not be annoying:

When he was growing up, his mother repeatedly threatened to commit suicide. ('She did it quite often, so we didn't take it seriously, but it's not the best way to see your parents behave.')
His father once tried to throttle him.
When he was nine, he was molested on the London Underground. ('My world changed.... How do you sleep after that?')
He is an advocate for music education.
He was the only classical musician chosen to take part in the 2012 Olympics closing ceremonies.
He called Muzak 'an insidious cancer that has spread throughout society.'
