Music Producer

The Resume

    (May 24, 1934-November 8, 2015)
    Born in Winchester, Virginia
Birth name was Charles Allen Dick
    Promoter, Manager and Producer
Former printing press operator/ linotype operator for the Winchester Star
Husband of country music legend, Patsy Cline (m. September 15, 1957)
Remained married until her tragic death in a plane crash on March 5, 1963
Later remarried, to country singer Jamey Ryan, with whom he had one child (m. Jul. 4, 1965-1972)
Later worked as a record promoter for several independent labels in Nashville throughout the 1960s and 70s
Founder and president of Legacy, Inc., dedicated to managing the legacy of the late Cline
Portrayed by Ed Harris in the Patsy Cline biopic 'Sweet Dreams' (1985)

Why he might be annoying:

He first hooked up with Patsy trying to make his old girlfriend jealous.
He admitted that his initial attraction to Cline might have been a matter of ego (she was performing on the dance hall stage).
He struggled with alcoholism during his first marriage.
He admitted to having a turbulent relationship with his wife, probably rooted in jealousy and male insecurity.
He spent a night in jail after a particularly heated argument between the two which resulted in battery charges against him (which were later dropped).
He only vaguely remembered proposing to Patsy, presumably having been drunk at the time.
He recalled the situation by saying 'she said, and I guess its true, that one night... I said after we get married we're going to do this. She said oh we're going to get married? I said, Hell I guess so. That was it. At least that's what she told me.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He lost both of his parents in a car accident as a teenager.
The death of his parents prompted him to drop out of high school at 16, to work full-time.
When asked if she was happy with Charlie shortly after the wedding, she beamed, 'just as happy as if I had good sense!'
He managed his wife's career during their marriage, skills later were put to use as a music exec.
He was widowed with two infants, and never completely recovered from the pain of the loss (even dedicating a shrine to her in his Tennessee home).
He, along with Patsy's mother, was responsible for keeping Patsy's artistic legacy intact for future generations.
He was unfairly characterized in the factually inaccurate (and overrated) 'Sweet Dreams' movie.
Even family/friends who vouched for the film stated that the fight scenes between the two never got that physical (unlike Dooley, whose depicted rocky marriage with Loretta in 'Coal Miner's Daughter' was pretty spot-on).
He partnered with Hallway Productions to oversee a pair of, more truthful, video documentaries on his late wife ('The Real Patsy Cline' and 'Remembering Patsy').
The success of the documentaries led to him working further with the company in the 1990s, producing documentaries on Willie Nelson, Ernest Tubb, and The Mamas and Papas.
He took an active role in the release of 'Patsy Cline: Live at the Cimarron Ballroom,' the release of (believed lost) audio of a July 1961 concert from Tulsa, Oklahoma, done shortly after her near-fatal car accident.
