Two-time Tour de France winner (1983-84)

Why he might be annoying
He began cycling without telling his parents, who disapproved of competing on Sundays, when most amateur races were held.
He was nicknamed 'the Professor' for his glasses.
He became better known for his narrow loss to Greg LeMond in the 1989 Tour de France than for his two victories.
It was claimed that he could have won if it had not been for the extra drag from his ponytail.
He was named the least likable rider by journalists covering the 1989 Tour.
He admitted to using banned amphetamines and cortisone.
Why he might not be annoying
He was given the nickname 'Professor' because he was also one of the few high school graduates on the pro tour.
He won the Tour de France the first time he competed in it and during only his second year as a professional cyclist.
He lost the 1989 Tour to LeMond by only 8 seconds, the closest ever margin to decide the race.
LeMond said, 'I liked him because he has always been true to himself and I regard him as one of the best riders of the past 35 or 40 years.'
He provided color commentary for the 2010 Tour despite undergoing chemotherapy for metastasized cancer.
