    It has a population diversity issue even by Iowa standards.
    It has attained a reputation for being hostile towards the LGBT community.
    A referendum was narrowly defeated that would have granted city council members the power to ban books from libraries that were determined to be pro-LGBT.
    It was the site of the world premiere for Stephen Bannon's hagiographic documentary on Sarah Palin - 'The Undefeated' (June 28, 2011).
    It set a world record for the most people dancing in wooden shoes, when over 2,600 people danced for more than six minutes at the city's annual Tulip Festival (2010).

    It was settled by Dutch immigrants.
    Wyatt Earp spent most of his childhood there (his brothers Morgan and Warren were born there).

    The Pella Opera House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1992).
    Its name is a reference to Pella of the Decapolis, where the Christians of Jerusalem had found refuge during the Roman–Jewish war of 70 AD.
