    Born in Holy Springs, Mississippi
    Full name is Ida Bell Wells-Barnett
    Civil rights activist, journalist and sociologist
    Her case in a lower court was overturned by the Tennessee Supreme Court despite a lower court ruling in her favor.
    She filed a libel suit against two black attorneys in 1893.
    SHe was not invited to The National Association of Colored Women's club meeting in Chicago.
    She had some disagreements with Booker T. Washington's Atlanta Compromise.
    She was a crusader against racism, intolerance, imperialism and corruption.
    She stood for what she believed in.
    She refused to give up her seat on a segregated train.
    She predated Rosa Parks's debacle by 71 years.
    She survived death threats and robberies against her.
    Frederick Douglass and Wells protested against the 1893 World Columbian Exposition's views on race.
    A postage stamp was dedicated in her honor (1990).
