Why they might be annoying
They were originally the 'Jaggers,' discovered another group using the same name, and changed an 's' to a 'z' to avoid confusion.
They allegedly got their name from a Pittsburgh area slang term, 'jagger bush,' meaning a thorny bush.
They were a one-hit wonder.
If you bought their one hit back in 1970 thinking, based on the band's name, that it was some solo project by Mick, you were in for a surprise.
For that matter, if you download their hit today thinking, based on the song name, that it was some early hip-hop number, you are in for an even bigger surprise.
Why they might not be annoying
Before the success of 'The Rapper,' they were a blue-eyed soul band who recorded for Gamble and Huff.
'The Rapper' hit #2 on the Billboard chart, sold over a million copies and earned a gold record.
Iris went on to solo success in the 80s.
Asked if he was upset when people call the band one-hit wonders, Jimmie Ross replied, 'That really doesn't bother me. Better to have one than none. That's how I look at it.'
