Why he might be annoying:

He said that when he was asked to join ELO, 'My first thought was that it was an orchestra with a light show.'
After leaving ELO, he spent time busking in the subways and living on the dole.
He became a follower of Baghwan Shree Rajneesh and changed his name to Swami Deva Pramada.

Why he might not be annoying:

He livened up ELO shows with his antics, including fingering the cello with a grapefruit and performing a solo that ended with his cello 'exploding' through the use of pyrotechnics.
He composed works for the Sadler Wells and Convent Garden operas.
He died in a freak accident when a 600 kilogram (1300 pound) bale of hay broke loose and rolled down a hillside onto the highway, crushing his van.
