    He was the grandson of Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn, yet converted to Christianity.
    He was a child prodigy.
    His family was wealthy, allowing him to spend more time studying and composing music.
    He suffered from depression.
    He composed his first 12 symphonies between the ages of 12 and 14.
    'The Wedding March' is played as the recessional at Christian weddings.
    He was responsible for the revival and popularity of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
    He became the conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra at age 26.
    He was happily married until his death.
