Her Columbia college bio calls her ‘one of those children who went to school every day in costume’ and her middle name ‘gentler.’

Her early teachers were rightfully worried she couldn’t differentiate truth and fiction.
Her signature Big Gay character was a British boy who didn’t want anything except… a vagina.
Offstage? ‘I’m extremely quiet and terribly meek.’ You probably can’t tell.

Except for being a lez, she looks like your classic blue-eyed blonde chick.
Her musical background – which included cello – was, ahem, instrumental in her campus work and Big Gay appearances.
In SNL history, only two other regular cast members have been openly homosexual.
She grew up on Mel Brooks and Shirley Temple.
She came by her capacity for voices honestly (‘I’ve been doing funny voices since I was five’) — especially as her mother was president of her own school drama club.
Her progressive parents were a bedrock of support in the face of a campus that had no LGBT foundation; even her heterosexual younger sister would go on to support the cause.
