(circa 1972-July 7, 2011)
Firefighter from Brownwood, Texas
Fell over the railing at Rangers Ballpark attempting to catch a foul ball thrown into the stands by Josh Hamilton
Fell 20 feet into a gap between the railing and a left field scoreboard
Died of his injuries
Why he might be annoying
He died for a baseball.
His six-year-old son witnessed his fall.
In a morbid coincidence, his death occured a year and a day after another firefighter, Tyler Morris, fell 30 feet from the second deck of Rangers Ballpark while trying to catch a foul ball. (Morris survived, suffering a head injury and severe ankle sprain.)
His death made it difficult for the Rangers to enjoy their victory over the Oakland A's.
Why he might not be annoying
He did catch the ball.
As he was being taken out on a stretcher, he said, 'Please check on my son. My son was up there by himself.'
The next day, a tarp was placed over the gap where he fell.
At the next day's game, a moment of silence was held, flags at the stadium flew at half-mast, and the Rangers and Athletics wore black ribbons on their uniforms.
The Rangers Foundation set up a memorial fund for his family.
