Why Waterloo, Iowa might be annoying:

It is well-known being the longtime hometown of John Wayne Gacy and Tea Party nut Michele Bachmann.
It is where Gacy assaulted his first victims.
The Cedar River has a history of causing destructive floods in the city.
It suffered a large population loss after John Deere cut its workforce in the 90's.
People from the big city tend to look at it as a backwards, hick industrial town.
People from small towns tend to look at it as an intimidating, crime-ridden city.

Why Waterloo, Iowa might not be annoying:

Their art museum has the largest collection of Haitian art in the US.
It has a pretty diverse population by Iowa standards.
Although he initially planned on staying, Gacy moved out of here after his first arrest (unfortunately for Chicago).
Michele Bachmann made an ass of herself when she boasted about the wrong John Wayne being from here (he was actually from a town over 100 miles away).
John Deere has a huge manufacturing center here.
