Golfer
    (May 20, 1937-September 27, 2011)
    Born in Jackson, Michigan
Birth name was James David Hill
    Won 13 PGA tour events
    Won six Senior Tour events
Played for the US in three Ryder Cups (1969,1973,1977)
His fans were known as 'Hill's Angels.'
He frequently led the tour in fines and suspensions for such infractions as swearing and breaking clubs.
He was dubbed 'the Don Rickles of golf' for his sarcastic comments.
During his best finish in a major (2nd at the 1970 US Open), his play was overshadowed by his criticisms of the Hazeltine Golf Club: '[It] really did lack only 80 acres of corn and a few cows. They ruined a good farm when they built this course.'
He was such a perfectionist that he suffered partial hysterical blindness for ten days after a badly played game.
He reacted a losing streak in gin rummy by throwing his suitcase out the motel window -- without opening the window first.
He won the Vardon Trophy for lowest average on the PGA Tour (1969).
He was not the only player to criticize Hazeltine (for instance, Jack Nicklaus said, 'Many players will need guides as well as caddies'), but he was the only one to get fined for it.
After Hazeltine was extensively redesigned for the 1991 US Open, he said it was 'a fun and demanding golf course.'
Lee Trevino said he was one of the most approachable players on the PGA Tour.
