    In Guinness Book of World Records as the person who spent the longest amount of time in a Negative Pressure Ventilator, better known as the ‘Iron Lung’ used for sufferers of polio
    Last Iron Lung was manufactured in 1977
    Polio killed 1,000 people and crippled more than 10,000 in Australia
    She needed to be kept in a machine the size of a telephone box and driven around in a special van when going somewhere.
    In 1949, she contracted polio when she was just 22.
    She was confined to a machine for the rest of her life.
    She spent of 60 years in an Iron Lung.
    She contracted polio a week before she was due to marry.
    Before getting polio, she was a passionate dancer.
    She eventually managed to have her own home and adopt a dog, Angel.
    She was an Australian Rules Football fan and was presented with an award by the captain of the team she supported.
    She had a great sense of humor and was adored by her carers.
