    Named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to racing (1999)

Why he might be annoying:

    His first two forays into running a professional racing team were ill-received.
    He accused BMW of ruining their racing partnership for being critical of the team's performance.
    He fought charges of negligent manslaughter after the death of Ayrton Senna at the San Marino Grand Prix in May 1994. He was acquitted in 1997.
    He stepped down from his leadership position at Williams and appointed his daughter to succeed him (nepotism).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He funded himself by his work as a traveling grocery salesman.
    He is well known supporter of Newcastle United.
    A motor accident in 1986 left him permanently in a wheelchair.
    He lost his wife of thirty years to cancer.
    In 1997, his team became one of only four to win 100 races.
    As of 2020, he is the longest serving team boss in Formula One history.
    He was awarded France's Legion of Honor for his work on Renault engines, making him one of the few non-French recipients of the award.
    He finds it painful to speak about Ayrton Senna even two decades after the crash, both due to the guilt and the memories it conjures for him (they were friends long before the driver even signed onto the Williams F1 team).
