Why he might be annoying
As part of his personal investigation into the death of Vince Foster, he shot a pumpkin in his backyard.
He cast the sole vote against a bill banning representatives from accepting free trips from lobbyists (2007).
He said the US should place an aircraft carrier 'off the coast of Bolivia' to dust coca crops with herbicides (1995).
His investigation of Democratic fundraising was denounced as a 'circus' by fellow Republican Newt Gingrich.
He allegedly demanded a $5,000 contribution from Pakistani lobbyist and threatened to ruin his career if he did not pay up.
He espoused family values, but had a son out of wedlock (1983).
A Planned Parenthood lobbyist accused him of groping her.
Why he might not be annoying
His father was violent and abusive.
As a boy, he shined shoes to help earn grocery money for the family.
While in high school, he won a statewide golf championship.
He served in the US Army (1956-57) and Army Reserves (1957-62).
He received 12 'Friend of the Taxpayer' awards from the National Taxpayers Union and 12 'Golden Bulldog' awards from the Watchdogs of the Treasury for cutting wasteful spending.
