Why he might be annoying:

He sped up his voice to create the irritating Chipmunk characters, Alvin, Simon and Theodore.
He used the stage name 'David Seville,' because he thought his birth name was 'too ethnic.'
He originally used chipmunk puppets on TV, but soon replaced them with cutesy cartoons.
His son, Ross Bagdasarian, Jr., refuses to let the franchise die.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the army during World War II.
He was a talented songwriter who wrote hits for Rosemary Clooney.
He had a small but memorable part in Hitchcock's 'Rear Window.'
Rather than losing his temper with his bratty son, he turned him into a bratty rodent TV character and made a bundle.
Alvin and the Chipmunks were very popular.
When he recorded a song called 'Alvin For President,' he got a letter from John F. Kennedy saying: 'I am pleased to know that I have at least one worthy opponent.'
The Beatles were amused by his work, and allowed him to release a Chipmunk parody of their songs.
