    His favored stage clothes were a purple vest, shiny gold shirt and snakeskin eyepatch.
    He said, 'I never went to school, never been trained how to act. I'm an animal, man.'
    He was blinded in his right eye as an infant when a midwife administered contaminated eyedrops.
    He introduced jazz and rock influences into conjuto music.
    He was nicknamed 'the Jimi Hendrix of the accordion.'
    He played over 20 instruments in addition to accordion.
    He survived being stabbed outside a nightclub (1973).
