    (December 31, 1897-February 27, 1964)
Born in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia
Costume designer for nearly 300 films
Won Oscars for 'An American in Paris' (1951), 'Les Girls' (1959) and 'Some Like It Hot' (1959)
Wrote the column 'Hollywood Fashion Parade' for the International News Service
His birth name is given in various sources as Orry George Kelly, George Orry Kelly and John Orry Kelly.
He tried unsuccessfully to launch an acting career before going into costume design.
Jack Warner fired him for his alcoholism (1944).
During costume fittings for 'Some Like It Hot,' he told Marilyn Monroe, 'Tony has a better-looking ass than you do.' (She whipped off her blouse and replied, 'He doesn't have tits like these.')
Bette Davis called him her 'right hand' and said he was the only designer to capture her personality.
He said of the jumper he created for Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca, 'I wish I had a dime for every time that's been copied.'
Going against the cliche of the effeminate designer, he was a fan of prize fighting.
Jack Warner delivered the eulogy at his funeral and his pallbearers included Tony Curtis, Cary Grant, Billy Wilder and George Cukor.
