Why he might be annoying:

    He was nicknamed 'the Pumper.'
A friend said his voice was 'an octave higher than a hummingbird.'
    He wore a toupee.
He and his wife Hazel got divorced after 48 years, then remarried a year later.

Why he might not be annoying:

As a kid, his family missed sailing on the Titanic when their train was late pulling into the port of Southampton.
A spill off a horse left him paralyzed for a month and he was told he would never walk again (1935).
For fifteen years (1956-70), he held the record for most wins until his mark was bettered by Willie Shoemaker.
He became the first person to win the Kentucky Derby as both a jockey and a trainer when Majestic Prince won the race (1969).
Despite the one year interruption, he and Hazel were married for 52 years.
