Why Challenger Disaster might be annoying:

Its passengers became the first U.S. space causalities after a launch.
The mission was rescheduled three times and when it was launched, the weather was not optimum.
The disaster was caused by faulty 'O Rings' manufactured by Morton Thiokol.
The families of all seven astronauts sued Morton Thiokol.
McAuliff, Onizuka, Jarvis and Scobee's family split $7.7 million (December 1986).
McNair and Resnick's families sued independently and received multi millions (1988).
Jane Smith sued for $1.5 billion and settled for an undisclosed amount (1988).
The U.S. manned space mission ended for 2 years and 9 months until the Space Shuttle Discovery was launched (September 29, 1988).
The disaster spawned many poor tasteless jokes (like, uh, nevermind).

Why Challenger Disaster might not be annoying:

It was an extremely diverse crew, including an Asian, African American, two women (one of which was Jewish and the other the first civilian in space).
President Reagan cancelled his State of the Union speech schedule the night of the disaster.
