The Resume

    (July 23, 2000-August 8, 2004)
    Aired on Nickelodeon
    Alvin Alvarez as Larry García
    Carlos Lacámara as Ray García
    Ada Maris as Sonia García
    Jeffrey Licon as Carlos García
    Bobby Gonzalez as George García
    Vaneza Pitynski as Lorena García
John Leguizamo as Adult Larry García/Narrator
Premise: Focuses on the misadventures a Mexican-American family living in San Antonio, all told from the perspective of the youngest son

Why The Brothers Garcia might be annoying:

It was basically a Latino version of Malcolm in the Middle/The Wonder Years.
Lorena was a full-on certified telenovela addict.
George Lopez and Solange guested on episodes.
It went wholesale product placement by having the Garcias visit Universal Studios in the first episode of the second season.
It recycled many of the old family sitcom clichés (the 'cool' but self-centered older brother, the bratty younger sister, etc.).
Alvin Alvarez and Vaneza Pitynski played fraternal twins despite being a year apart (later seasons showed the sister being significantly taller).
It was told from the perspective of its grown protagonist but didn't appear to be rooted in any particular time period other than the present-day 2000s (so maybe its a futuristic Larry talking from the 2010s?)
Nickelodeon failed to release episodes on DVD, leading to the surfacing of bootleg sets for sale on the internet (and then along came YouTube).

Why The Brothers Garcia might not be annoying:

It made TV history as the first English-language sitcom to feature an all-Latino cast and creative staff.
Larry had ambitions to become an astronaut throughout the series' run.
One episode had Carlos find out that a girl at school is undergoing treatment for cancer (he later shaves off his hair to support her).
The Washington Post praised it for showing 'the only middle-class Latino family in prime time' (the first in nearly two decades).
Future stars Vanessa Hudgens, Kay Panabaker, and Brenda Song all made appearances.
The show's creator, Jeff Valdez, drew from his childhood in the Pueblo housing projects (the youngest of nine kids) for the premise. He was turned down by nearly every major network before the pilot was approved by Nickelodeon.
Carlos Lacamara and Ada Maris - usually typecast as 'the help' - were allowed to play the Garcia parents with great dignity (Ray was an educated college professor and Sonia owned/ran her own salon).
Every episode closed off with the line: 'Todo para la familia. Everything for the family.'
