    (February 24, 1922-September 13, 2011)
Born in Pimlico, London, United Kingdom
    Painter, printmaker and collage artist
Best-known work was the collage 'Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing?' (1956)
Other works include 'Swingeing London,' 'Hommage a Chrysler Corp.,' 'Hugh Gaitskell as a Famous Monster of Filmland,' and 'Shock and Awe'
Considered a pioneer of pop art
He was expelled from the Royal Academy for 'not profiting from the instruction.'
He said about his most famous work, 'I'm rather bored with it, but it's a nice little earner.'
His butt was filmed for Yoko Ono's 'Film No. 4: Bottoms.' ('Not that I would recognize it now.')
He complained about getting paid only £200 for designing the Beatles' 'White Album.' (Dude, it's white. Did it take you longer than five minutes to finish?)
He objected to being called the father of pop art: 'While I was interested in the pop phenomenon, I never associated myself with the term, which I used to describe Elvis Presley and rather vulgar American imagery of ice cream cones or hamburgers.'
His first wife died in a car crash (1962).
The Guardian wrote that he 'created the most important and enduring works of any British modern painter.'
He was a major influence on the visual style of Roxy Music, whose singer Bryan Ferry had been his student.
He said that his favorite of the honors he received was, 'I was given a card that admits me to the National Gallery at any time of the day or night ... I sat for half an hour in front of these wonderful paintings. There were no interruptions. Now, that's a reward.'
