    Acted in 'Journey Into Fear (1942),' 'The Lady from Shanghai (1947),' 'Prince of Foxes (1949),' 'The Desert Fox (1951),' 'Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956),' 'Patterns (1956)' and 'The Disorderly Orderly (1964)'
    He left the University of Pennsylvania to become an actor.
    His acting career initially drew many negative reviews.
    He never became leading film actor, probably because of his looks.
    He portrayed Hitler on radio on several occasions.
    He killed himself by a barbiturate overdose at age 55 (1965).
    He was a very prolific radio actor, performing in over 15,000 broadcasts.
    He was a prominent member of Orson Welles' Mercury Theater Players.
    He wrote unused lyrics to the 'Andy Griffith Show' whistling theme.
    He committed suicide because he began losing his vision.
