He was known more for his eccentricities then for his performance.
He often used profanity to fire himself up, along with shout at himself while on the pitcher's mound.
His behaviors frequently led to misunderstandings between himself and the hitters he faced.
He wound up on the disabled list after he sustained a strained rib cage muscle while wrestling with his pitching coach.
He signed a contract with the Baltimore Orioles, which was voided after he failed his physical (2013).

His eccentric personality made him a fan favorite.
He defied long odds to establish himself as a mainstay in the Rays bullpen.
He set a new Athletics franchise record for consecutive saves.
He was the major league leader in saves and strikeouts recorded by an Australian-born pitcher, prior to Liam Hendriks.
He was inducted into the Australian Baseball Hall of Fame (2015).
