    He was at the center of the violent Ten Cent Beer Night debacle in Cleveland, where he was one of the targets of thrown objects and a few punches by drunken Cleveland fans in a game that was forfeited to Texas.
    He often clashed with manager Ted Williams.
    He was a mediocre fielder.

    He was selected by the Washington Senators as the 1st pick of the June 1969 draft.
    He was selected to the All Star team (1974 and 1978).
    He led the American League in RBI and was named MVP (1974).
    He coached his son's team to championships in the 1992 and 1993 Little League World Series.
    He wrote an instructional guide for Little League players.
