Why he might be annoying:

His full name was the unwieldy Alfonso León Fernando María Jaime Isidro Pascual Antonio of Bourbon and Hapsburg-Lorraine.
Thanks to heavy inbreeding in the royal family, he had only eight great-great-grandparents instead of the normal sixteen.
He fathered six kids out of wedlock.
He intervened disastrously in the Moroccan War, with a parliamentary commission blaming him directly for the army's defeat at Anwal (1921).
He supported a military coup and dictatorship by General Miguel Primo de Rivera, who he dubbed 'my Mussolini.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He survived five assassination attempts, the most dramatic occurring on his wedding day when an anarchist lobbed a bomb at the wedding procession as it returned from the church to the palace (May 31, 1906).
His wife, Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenburg, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was a carrier of hemophilia, with the result that two of their sons, Prince Alfonso and Infante Gonzalo, bled to death from seemingly minor injuries suffered in auto accidents.
During World War I, he established an office run from the royal palace to assist prisoners of war from both sides.
After the execution of Tzar Nicholas II, he negotiated with the Soviet government to allow the surviving Romanovs to leave Russia and go into exile.
He was the sponsor of several royal soccer clubs, like Real Madrid.
