    (1978- )
    Formed in Leeds, England
Green Gartside (ne' Paul Julian Strohmeyer) (vocals)
    David Gamson (keyboards)
    Fred Maher (drums)
Best known for the 1985 hit 'Perfect Way'
The band began in the late 1970s as a punk group but Green changed musical direction after a year-long hiatus.
The name 'Scritti Politti' was taken from an Italian political diatribe by Antonio Gramsci.
They released a song weirdly titled 'Wood Beeze (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)' in 1985.
One critic said Green's voice sounded like he was 14-years-old.
When the members went their separate ways, Green continued to work on solo material still using the name 'Scritti Politti.'
Green, a fan of Jacques Derrida, used deconstructionist theory in his lyrics.
Green suffered a heart attack at just 23.
David Gamson went on to produce albums for Chaka Khan and Me'Shell Ndegeocello.
The group's breakthrough release, 'Cupid and Psyche 85,' was one of the first pop albums to extensively use sequencing, sampling and micro-percussion.
In 1986, jazz legend Miles Davis covered 'Perfect Way' on his album 'Tutu.'
