Wrote the young adult novels 'Hoot' (2002), 'Flush' (2005), 'Scat' (2009) and 'Chomp' (2012)

Why he might be annoying:

His novel 'Strip Tease' was adapted into a flop Demi Moore film.
He said, 'Sure it would be easier to write a funny story about something the dog dug up in the garden, and there are those columnists who do that. But I told my editor, the day I do that, put a bullet in my brain, because it's over.'
Dave Barry noted about his penchant for killing off characters in odd ways (such as being impaled on the bill of a stuffed marlin, or drowning while being sexually assaulted by a horny dolphin), 'It makes you wonder what's going on in his brain. I'm glad he writes, because if he didn't, he'd probably be out there killing people.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He attacked his bosses at the Herald for accepting ads from a construction company whose substandard houses 'shattered like popsicle sticks' in a storm.
His first young adult novel won the prestigious Newbery Honor.
He sang backup on the Jimmy Buffett song 'The Ballad of Skip Wiley,' which was inspired by his novel 'Tourist Season.'
The Wall Street Journal said his writing combined 'the scrutiny of Tom Wolfe with the twisted imagination of Hunter S. Thompson.'
