    He started his music career at age 12 as an accordionist.
    He is the father-in-law of Stephen Baldwin (his daughter Kennya met the actor on a New York subway).
    As a self-taught musician, he arranged and conducted his first recording session with a 28-piece orchestra at age 17.
    He emigrated to New York in 1967.
    He has covered several different styles of music, including jazz, rock/pop, R&B/funk, Brazilian/Latin, orchestral music and even the bossa-nova.
    In 1973, 'Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)' reached #2 on the U.S. Billboard Top 100, #3 on the Canadian Singles chart and #7 on the U.K. Singles chart.
    The song was featured prominently in the 1979 Peter Sellers film 'Being There,' the 2005 Emile Hirsch film 'Lords of Dogtown' and the 2008 Will Ferrell film 'Semi-Pro.'
    As an in-demand producer and arranger, he has worked with various artists on over 500 albums, 16 of which went platinum.
    His combined album sales working with others is well over 25 million, and some of the musicians he's collaborated with include Kool & the Gang, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind and Fire, Roberta Flack and Bjork.
