    (January 17, 1989- )
    Born in San Diego, California
Portrayed Rose Tico in the Star Wars films ‘The Last Jedi’ (2017) and ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ (2019)
Before ‘Last Jedi,’ most of her acting experience was in podcasts.
As a Harry Potter fan, she wore her lucky Ravenclaw tie to her ‘Last Jedi’ auditions.
While filming ‘Last Jedi,’ she told her family she was making an independent film in Canada. To further the impression, she bought maple syrup and brought it back to her parents.
Her screen time in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ was cut to little more than a minute, ostensibly because of technical difficulties in having her character interact with Princess Leia using cut scenes of Carrie Fisher from earlier films.
Her parents were Vietnam War refugees.
She trained in improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade.
She was the first Asian woman on the cover of ‘Vanity Fair,’ appearing alongside fellow ‘Last Jedi’ cast members Oscar Isaac and John Boyega.
She said, ‘I remember growing up and not seeing anyone that looked like me in the movies.’
She was the target of racist and sexist harassment online to such an extent that she deleted her social media accounts.
She was not bitter about her treatment in ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ saying, ‘I got to be part of something bigger than me and that’s something really special.’
