Why he might be annoying:

    He became a born-again Christian in the years after he retired from baseball.
    He ran unsuccessfully to represent South Carolina's 5th District in Congress (1976).
    Despite posting impressive numbers, he was often overshadowed by the Yankees bigger guns.
    He was snubbed from the ballot for the Baseball Hall of Fame, despite his career numbers.
    Many Yankee fans are oblivious to the fact he wore #1, and often associate the number with Billy Martin.
    As of 2016, he remains the lone player to earn the World Series MVP honor while playing on the losing team.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a solid presence in the Yankees middle infield during the mid 1950's and early 1960's.
    He won five consecutive Gold Glove Awards during the 1960's.
    He was considered a clutch hitter and superb defensive player during his prime.
    He was a member of three World Series championship teams (1958, 1961, 1962).
    He retired at the age of 30, in order to prevent his body from wearing down from playing.
    He became head baseball coach for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and led them to their first ever appearance in the College World Series (1975).
