    Appeared in 'The Tree' (1969), 'Annie Hall' (1977), 'South Beach' (1992) and 'Deadly Rivals' (1993)
    Portrayed the 'Winston Man' in ads for R.J. Reynolds
    Became an anti-smoking advocate after developing cancer
    He began smoking at age nine, eventually working up to a two-and-a-half pack a day habit.
    He sued four cigarette companies on the grounds that he was never made aware of the dangers of smoking (1995), even though warnings have been printed on the packs since 1964.
    He abused cocaine.
    In the mid-80s, he pled guilty to two armed robberies.
    He was a Playgirl centerfold.
    He said of his Winston man days, 'Looking back on my career, I am ashamed that I helped promote such a lethal and addictive product.'
    After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 1988, he survived two operations to remove part of his lungs and a coronary bypass, only to die from cancer of the larynx.
