He is married with four kids (one of which died in 1996).
He attended NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill.
He is an advocate for education.
He's remarkably anti-tobacco for a North Carolina native.
He is an active member of a bipartisan team to help out medical patients' rights.
He intentionally ran a positive campaign avoiding attack ads and focusing on his own goals.
