They have the same color scheme as the Houston Texans.
They are another franchise trying to capitalize on the popularity of football in Texas.
They were forced to change their original logo due to a potential copyright infringement.
The NFL felt the original logo looked too similar to that of the Houston Oilers.
They have to compete with the revived USFL’s Houston Gamblers for fan support.

Why Houston Roughnecks might not be annoying:

They won their first game.
They were the lone undefeated team during the 2020 season that got halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
They have great rivalries with both the Arlington Renegades and the San Antonio Brahmas.
They provide an alternative to Houston football fans who either can’t afford going to a Texans game, or tired of the drama that surrounds the team.
Their team name provides a nod to both the old Houston Oilers and the oil industry the city is known for.
