Why he might be annoying:

Although Arum was already a prolific, and successful promoter in 1974, the then-unknown Don King stole Ali-Foreman from right under his nose, and even more embarrassing to Arum, the two fighters accepted a purse which King had not yet even put together ($5M each)
Don King was hiding in Muhammad Ali's kitchen when he told Arum that he would be signing with King instead.
He helped create a racial line in boxing, signing all the promising white fighters after using the 'You Are Getting No Respect In The Black Man's Ring' play, while Don King signed the black fighters with the 'No Food At The White Man's Table' trick.

Why he might not be annoying:

He keeps a low profile, and instead of using a big mouth to hype his fighters, he lets his fighters do the talking in the ring.
He called Mike Tyson the scum of boxing, and has foregone millions of dollars from refusing to associate with him.
He worked his way up, starting from financially supervising (not providing) the first Ali-Liston fight in 1964.
