He's known for his bad temper.
Despite a long career in TV production, he's best known for three seasons of the low-budget sci-fi show 'Doctor Who.'
He introduced graphic violence and horror to the series.
Many 'family-values' organizations protested the BBC during his tenure as producer.
The network eventually took him off the show's production staff.
He produced 'Total Eclipse,' a critical and commercial flop starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Many fans consider his time with 'Doctor Who' to be the series' glory years.
The show achieved its highest-ever ratings under his guidance.
He refused to change his style because of what squeamish 'values' groups thought.
He said he didn't mind people protesting, because it only made the ratings get better.
