They were one hit wonders in the US.
Although from Australia, they are often lumped in with the British Invasion.
The band broke up partly because of Wright's problems with alcohol and heroin.
Wright said of 'Friday on My Mind,' 'I sang it 10,000 times and I hated it.'
In Australia they had eight Top Five hits in 18 months and triggered a Beatlemania-like response dubbed 'Easyfever.'
Forty years later, 'Friday on My Mind' remains a classic weekend anthem.
Vanda and Young produced the first six albums by AC/DC, which featured Young's brothers Angus and Malcolm.
The Australian Performing Rights Association named 'Friday on My Mind' the best Australian song of all time (2001).
