She had practically no experience in film production but proved to be a rapid learner — perhaps too rapid for her own good.
Her first husband was an American golfer, through which a daughter – later a jazz vocalist and production associate – was born.
She effectively came between Gerry and his first wife.
As her profile and that of her signature character (London agent Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward) increased, so did Gerry’s resentment — which ultimately resulted in their divorce and him wanting no part of her.
In her memoirs about the Empire State Building, she admitted to having no idea the 18-inch model being destroyed for the sake of an episode would parallel Black Tuesday some 35 years later.
Having a degree in economics and sociology, she worked as a social worker in her early years.
As producer, voice artist, character developer, and costume designer – among other things – she built a highly effective professional partnership with Gerry.
They managed to hang on for five years before a divorce!
Post-Gerry, she became head of production at a new British video company and a talent scout for the London arm of HBO.
She reprised the voice role of Lady Penelope for a 1994 episode of AbFab.
She takes great pride in being a significant part of many viewers’ childhoods, Briton and overseas alike (her grandson is a Thunderbirds fan).
